          Dara Gray "D.T." Torres was born on April 15, 1967, in Los Angeles, California, to a Cuban-American family.

          6. Her father, Edward Torres, was a Cuban casino builder and owner, while her mother, Meryl Kauder, was an American model. Dara grew up in Beverly Hills, California, and began swimming at the age of seven, following in the footsteps of her brothers.

          She joined the Young Men's Christian Association (Y.M.C.A.) to pursue swimming and later trained at a swimming club in Culver City.
